If Jena and Alex look familiar to you, its because we shot their wedding at the Elms Hotel Last October! They found out that they were pregnant a few months after their wedding and we couldn’t be more excited. We chose Heritage Park for Jena and Alex’s foggy maternity session. Since it was early spring, we had to rescheduled the shoot many times due to KC storms and finally nailed down a day that seemed calm. When we arrived at Heritage Park, it was really cool out but it was also very foggy. The images from the shoot turned out to be so lovely.
When I first saw Jena I noticed that she changed her hair color before I noticed she had a baby bump. She didn’t even look as pregnant as she was describing to me over emails. Needless to say, Jena and Alex were all smiles and ready to start. It was 5:30AM and I for one was extremely exhausted, but they were bubbly and happy and that woke me up for sure! I was worried about how the images would turn out because of the fog but after I saw a few of the images I instantly fell in love with the foggy mood. We trekked through the wet grass waiting for the sun to show up. When it finally peeked out, the sun caught the clouds and made this beautiful orange smokey fog. It kind of looked like the sky was on fire.
We ended the shoot on the small pier. I jokingly asked the couple to get in the lake to mimic a shoot John and I did for ourselves! That was a running joke the entire session, although they were NOT fans of jumping into the lake! I always love catching up with our couples and watching them grow as a family and I totally loved catching up with these two. We hope to get a chance to photograph them as they continue to grow.
Stay tuned for our newborn session here on Lininger Rood Photo.
